Please find below the early rosters for all warm up skate dates. All player’s names should appear on two lists. If your player does NOT appear at least twice, please contact me ASAP: u18.director@spmha.ab.ca.

For all players who are opting for Non-Checking please note there will be a third skate on Sept. 26. This third skate is in the middle of the Checking Evaluation Games and will provide you the opportunity to get back on the ice so that you don’t have more than a week off in between your last warm up skate and first Evaluation Game. For now, the skaters only have been added to the Sept 26th Warm Up skate. (Skaters opting into the Non-Checking stream names should appear on two lists PLUS the Sept 26th list.) Goaltenders will be added at a later date.

Rules and game format can be found below.

Sept 16       Sept 17        Sept 19        Sept 20            Sept 26 (Non-Checkers only)

U18 Warm Up Skate Notes & Game Format

  • The warm-up games are optional, but please let me know if you cannot make it as I want to ensure adequate numbers for each squad
  • These lists are a simple mix of players of all backgrounds and skill levels and DO NOT constitute initial evaluation groups
  • No evaluations will take place at warm up games – these games are simply for the players who are not participating in Kings tryouts and have not yet had a chance to get on the ice to get their skating legs underneath them and get prepped for evaluations the following week
  • Players will be assigned to teams at check in each game
  • Please bring a practice jersey, in case we don’t have sufficient quantities for every player
  • Full equipment, including neck guards, are required. Every season a few U18 players always think they can “forget” their neck guards.  No neck guard, no ice time.
    • Ensure helmets and cages are appropriately tight. The officials are also warming up for their season and are instructed every season to be checking on chin straps and cage straps with appropriate tightness. If your player’s helmet/straps are too loose or cage is floating, they will be asked to correct them. If they continue to have loose-fitting straps or cages, they will be asked to leave the ice.
  • All warm up games are NON Body-Checking
  • Game format:
    • Free-flow 5 on 5 – minimal whistles
      • Goalie freezes the puck – whistle blown, attacking team must retreat to beyond the attacking blue line while defending team picks up puck
      • Offsides – whistle blown, attacking team must retreat behind the center red line while defending team picks up puck
      • Goals – whistle blown, attacking team must retreat behind the center red line
    • No body checking permitted in any warm up game
    • Penalties – whistle blown, penalty shot taken by the fouled player with a chase from all other players from one knee on the far blue line
    • Egregious/major/repeated infractions will result in the referee removing the offending player from the ice
    • For 60 minute warm up skate ice slots: three run-time periods of 18 minutes will be played. 3 minute warm up prior to game. 1 minute between each period
    • Goaltenders:
      • if 4 goaltenders present, each tender gets ½ the game (switch half way through second period)
      • if 3 goaltenders present, each tender will be assigned two period prior to the game (either 1&2, 2&3, or 1&3)
