Good day U18,

It has been a challenging 24 hours to say the least.

There has been a tremendous amount of turmoil in the division over the past 24 hours. There will be significant player movement occurring across the entire division. I have simple ask of you:

If you son is considering withdrawing from U18 hockey this season, now is the time to make the decision. It is a tremendous amount of work to reshuffle the division, so before I post what I hope to be the final revision of the rosters, I need to know if your player will not be continuing with us. Please email me prior to 7:00 PM tonight (October 6) if they are withdrawing. If you are skating, or looking to skate with with, another non-sanctioned team and are likely to withdraw because of that, please let me know so I can prepare appropriately.

For those of you who have emailed or texted me in the last 24 hours, it will take some time to respond to all of them, but I am working through it.

If you have withdrawn from hockey in the past 24 hours, the hockey office will be reaching out to confirm your withdrawal along with refund information. A link to the SPMHA Refund policy can be found in the SPMHA Policies & Procedures document, section 3.3.2 f – Refund of Fees so there are no surprises.

If you have questions about the Evaluation Process, or questions about how your payer arrived at the tiering they are at, please review this post, it has a lot of pertinent information. I wish every player could play at the level they, and you, feel they are at. The reality is that sometimes it is a numbers game – players sometimes are forced into a bit of a lower placement because of the numbers above them. it doesn’t mean they are not good hockey players – but chances are  if your son is there, others in your age group/previous teams, etc are as well.

If you are unhappy with your player’s placement, please feel free to review the SPMHA Evaluation Policy & Procedures document, section 4.3 – Tiering Disputes.

If you believe our Evaluation Policy Procedure has been breached and wish to file a grievance, please review section 4.4 – Grievance Process. The link to the Evaluation Grievance Form is located within.

I plan to have final team rosters posted on Monday, October 7, by 12:00. Please note, some teams may practice as early as that night.

Finally I am looking for one more head coach for a tier 3 team. If your player skated with the tier 3 group last night in the parity games, please contact me ASAP if you are interested. We would certainly allow a tandem (co-head coaches) or are open to placing a HC with several good assistants who would be available to help out if people are worried about work schedules or shift work.

I look forward to getting started in the season and focusing on the positive aspects of this great game we all love.

Thank you,

Todd
