The full 2024-2025 Full U15 Evaluation Schedule can be found here.

Here is the volunteer list for the games. Please sign up for games as you are able to. I understand that most will sign up after the list is out. We will need a lot of help throughout evaluations.

Please keep in mind that after each evaluation skate – there is less then 24 hours to review the data and revise the lists. We play every other day starting Friday, September 13, 2024. Most nights we’ll be on the ice and not getting home until after 10. I will start to review data, sleep, work and then continue to review the data to compile groups to post by 10pm for the skate the following day. There may be days where it comes out faster, some days slower. Please do not email asking where the list is. If it will be late, I will post to let you know. As mentioned – expect your player to skate until you see otherwise. Some players may play every day, some may only play 3 games depending on evaluation scores and groups playing.

When we look at the data from previous seasons, the majority of 2nd year players will only move up 1 tier from the first year with a small proportion of players moving up two tiers or staying in the same tier. First year players to a division typically move a tier lower than the previous season in a younger division with a small proportion moving up or staying in the same tier.

Players will may move between contact and non-contact games (especially defensemen because of the low number registered). Please ensure you adjust your game accordingly for player safety.

We will have 9 teams this season. We are currently looking at the following breakdown:

  • Contact Tier 1 – 1 team
  • Contact Tier 2 – 2 teams
  • Contact Tier 3 – 2 teams
  • Non-Contact Tier 1 – 1 team
  • Non- Contact Tier 2 – 2 teams
  • Non-Contact Tier 3 – 1 team

This may change depending on evaluations and the viable number of teams that can be created at each tier while following the Alberta One tiering grid. What this also means is that there are up to 100 contact spots with 132 players interested in playing contact – not all interested players will play on a contact team.

If you have questions about evaluations – a great post to read is our U18 Director’s post “U18 Evaluation Process Information“. I know this is written for U18, but much of the information translates to U15. Todd has been adding to this post for years and it holds a lot of good information. The sample U15 Player Movement matrix can be found in the Evaluation Policies and Procedures on page 16.

Evaluation Notes:

  • Lists for evaluations will not appear in TeamLinkt like junior divisions and will be posted to the website one day prior
  • Players will be assigned to teams at check-in for each game
  • Initial player group placement is determined by their interest in contact or non-contact, results of the contact game, position, and where they tiered last year.
  • Full equipment, including neck guards, are required. No neck guard, no ice time.
  • Period lengths will vary based on the number of goaltenders in each game.
  • Penalties – whistle blown; penalty shot taken by the fouled player
  • Egregious/major/repeated infractions will result in the referee removing the offending player from the ice

I want to remind you that we do our best to place your player in a position for success for the season based on what the evaluators see over the next two weeks. I realize this can be a stressful time. SPMHA does follow the 24-hour rule. When logging a complaint, I ask that you follow this, even though it can be hard during evaluations because everything happens so fast.

I can be reached at u15.director@spmha.ab.ca if you have any questions after reading everything.

Thanks,

Trish
