SPMHA SAFETY PROGRAM
The Sherwood Park Minor Hockey Association (SPMHA) has implemented a Safety Program in alignment with Hockey Alberta and the Hockey Canada Safety Program. The purpose of the program is to identify and mitigate potential risks, in addition to providing comprehensive safety education to the volunteer Team Safety Person. The goal of the program is to ensure that safety is a key priority for SPMHA, and that Team Safety Person is equipped with the appropriate knowledge of safety processes and procedures.
It is the firm belief of the association that safety should be managed through a proactive, preventative approach and has created the role of the Team Safety Person to help in achieving this objective. The Team Safety Person role will aid in supporting its vision to promote a safe environment for participants physical and emotional well-being, both on and off the ice. The Team Safety Person should be equipped through this program to respond in the event of potential injuries, incidents, or medical emergencies.
The Team Safety Person must play a leadership role in supporting the implementation of effective risk management processes within their team, enhancing the safety of players and all involved in amateur hockey. The Team Safety Person will adhere to Hockey Canada’s Safety Person Code of Ethics, and collaborate with the SPMHA Safety Director and SPMHA Safety Committee as required.
